How to Download Kick VODs (2026): The New Button and the 7-Day Limit

Quick answer: On kick.com, open your Creator Dashboard → Studio → VODs and click the download icon next to the stream. Do it soon: Kick deletes VODs after 7 days (up to 30 on verified channels), and once a VOD is auto-deleted, Kick says it can't be recovered.

On September 25, 2026, Kick started letting creators download their own VODs straight from Kick, with no third-party sites or browser tricks. The catch: Kick still deletes VODs on a timer and on a storage cap, and it says auto-deleted VODs are gone for good. This guide covers the button, both limits, how to keep a stream forever, clips, phones, other people's VODs, and the fastest way to turn a VOD into posts.

Kick VODs that creators sent to ClipMe had already been deleted by the time we went to fetch them: 38 of 262 unique Kick VOD links, September 5 to October 7, 2026.

Those streams weren't lost to a bug. Someone waited a little too long, and Kick's timer won. If a stream matters to you, save it (or clip it) in the first few days.

How to download your Kick VOD (3 steps)

  1. Open your Creator Dashboard. On kick.com, open your account menu and choose Creator Dashboard.
  2. Go to Studio, then VODs. Your saved streams are listed here.
  3. Click the download icon next to the VOD you want.

Your own channel. The button lives in your own Creator Dashboard, so it covers your channel's VODs. For anyone else's stream, see someone else's VOD below.

How long Kick keeps your VODs (there are two limits)

Kick saves a VOD automatically when your stream ends, then deletes it on its own. Two limits apply, and whichever you hit first wins (source: Kick Help Center, KICK VODs).

Regular channelVerified channel
Time limit7 days after the stream endsUp to 30 days
Storage limitUp to 16 stream replaysUp to 30 stream replays
Keep one foreverDownload itPin up to 5, or download

Streaming a lot? The storage limit can bite first. Three streams a day fills a regular channel's 16 slots in under six days, before the 7-day timer ever runs out. Make it a habit to download (or clip) every stream within a few days.

How to keep a Kick stream forever

  • Verified or Partner: pin it. You can pin up to 5 VODs, and pinned VODs are kept for good at the top of your channel (Kick Help Center, Pinning your VODs). Kick warns that if you unpin a VOD and it then expires, it can't be recovered. Save pins for the streams that define your channel: a milestone, a collab, a run people keep asking about.
  • Everyone: download it. Use the button above, then store the file yourself. The size table below helps you plan the space.
  • Streamers: record while you stream. In OBS, click Start Recording alongside Start Streaming and you keep a local copy from the first minute, whatever Kick's timer does.

How big is a Kick VOD?

File size depends on the bitrate you stream at. The rule of thumb: gigabytes per hour ≈ bitrate in Mbps × 0.45.

Stream bitratePer hour4-hour stream
3 Mbpsabout 1.35 GBabout 5.4 GB
6 Mbpsabout 2.7 GBabout 10.8 GB
8 Mbpsabout 3.6 GBabout 14.4 GB

Your bitrate is in your streaming software's output settings. Three or four streams a week adds up to tens of gigabytes, which is why keeping the clips instead of every full file saves so much space. Kick hasn't published the format or quality of its own VOD downloads, so treat these as estimates.

Want a moment, not the whole stream? Download a Kick clip

Clips are separate from VODs. On any Kick clip, click Download and it saves as an .mp4. Clips run up to 3 minutes and can be made on desktop or mobile, but streamers can delete them, and you can't clip a channel whose chat has banned you (Kick Help Center, How to create clips). More in how Kick's native clips work.

What about someone else's VOD?

Kick's download button sits in your own dashboard, so it doesn't cover other channels. If you clip for a streamer, an agency or a clip campaign:

  • Get permission first. Downloading a stream isn't permission to repost it.
  • Work from the public VOD link while it's still up. The same 7-day and 30-day limits apply.
  • Sub-only and private VODs are off limits. Kick lets streamers make VODs subscriber-only, hidden or private, and several third-party downloaders say they can't fetch those.

Can you download a Kick VOD on your phone?

Kick's announcement didn't say whether the download works in a phone browser or the Kick app, and we haven't confirmed it either way. The reliable route today is a computer's web browser. On a phone, you can still make and download clips, or paste a VOD link into ClipMe and get the clips sent to your email, with nothing to download first.

From VOD to clips: by hand vs. from the link

Most people don't download a VOD to keep a 4-hour file. They download it to cut clips for TikTok, Reels and Shorts. Here's what that takes each way.

By hand

Download, scrub, cut, repeat

  1. Download the VOD and wait for a multi-gigabyte file.
  2. Scrub the whole stream for the moments chat went wild, the audio spikes and the reactions.
  3. Cut each moment down to a short clip.
  4. Reframe it to vertical 9:16 and add captions.
  5. Export, then repeat for every clip.
With ClipMe

Paste the link, get the clips

  1. Copy the public Kick VOD link.
  2. Paste it into ClipMe. It reads chat speed, audio peaks and scene changes to find the best moments.
  3. Get ranked clips, reframed to vertical 9:16 with captions, ready to post.

ClipMe cutting a ranked clip off a live Kick broadcast in real time, so the moment is saved before Kick's 7-day VOD timer ever matters.

No multi-gigabyte download, no scrubbing through hours of footage, and it works before Kick's 7-day timer runs out. ClipMe also clips Twitch and YouTube, and it can clip while you're still live, so the best moments are ready before the VOD even exists. There's a free Starter plan, and Pro is $29/month.

VOD missing, or no download button?

  • It isn't your channel. The button is in your own Creator Dashboard and covers your own VODs.
  • The VOD hit a limit. It passed 7 days (or 30 on a verified channel), or your channel went over its 16 or 30 stored replays. Kick says auto-deleted VODs can't be recovered (Kick Help Center, My VOD is missing).
  • The stream was very short. Kick notes that streams ending very soon after going live may not save.
  • It was deleted or hidden. Streamers can make a VOD private or delete it from the Videos tab. Check its visibility in your dashboard.

Quick checklist

  • Download (or clip) every stream within 7 days, sooner if you stream several times a day.
  • Pin your top 5 streams if you're Verified or a Partner.
  • Record locally in OBS while you stream if you want every stream forever.
  • Budget storage: roughly 2.7 GB per hour at 6 Mbps.
  • Want clips, not files? Paste the link instead of downloading.
