Every specific claim below is pulled from OpusClip's own product pages and help center docs, cited inline. Getting a video into the system

On the free tier, OpusClip only accepts a local file upload, capped at 10GB, processed at regular (non-priority) speed. There's no URL import on Free. Paid tiers unlock importing by link from YouTube, Google Drive, Vimeo, Zoom, Rumble and StreamYard, plus auto-import from verified YouTube accounts, according to OpusClip's own pricing page.

Whatever the source, OpusClip's help docs put a hard ceiling on length: 10 hours. Videos past that "may encounter processing issues," and the recommended workaround is Copilot's processing-timeframe slider, which lets you select a portion of a longer file instead of running the whole thing through at once. No minimum length is stated.

For Kick specifically, OpusClip's own Kick Clip Maker tool page describes a link-paste workflow: you give it the URL of a finished VOD and it goes to work on that file. There's no account connection and no live ingest, a detail worth remembering because it comes up again later in this piece.

Import speed and file handling also depend on where the source lives. A local upload has to finish transferring before anything else can start, which matters on a 10GB file over a slow connection. A URL import instead hands OpusClip a link and lets its servers pull the file directly from YouTube, Drive, Vimeo or wherever it's hosted, which likely explains part of why paid tiers feel less like waiting rooms than the free one, though OpusClip doesn't publish a direct import-speed comparison.

After a video is uploaded or imported, you get two paths. "Hands-Free" mode lets the AI auto-detect the genre and apply default prompts on its own. The manual path lets you pick a genre and type a natural-language instruction, keywords or a full sentence, describing what to pull out. It's matching against meaning, not searching for an exact transcript quote.

Under the hood, OpusClip's help center describes this as video understanding: every frame gets analyzed for visual, audio and sentiment cues, objects, scenes, actions, sounds, emotions and on-screen text. That's a multimodal read of the footage, not a transcript-only keyword match, which in principle lets it catch a visual gag or a reaction shot that's never said out loud, though OpusClip doesn't publish examples confirming this. Each candidate scene gets rated for virality, and the matching set can also be reframed to 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9 and stitched into compilations or highlight reels.

The prompt itself does real work here. Typing "find all scoring moments" versus "find the funniest reaction" points the same multimodal analysis (visual, audio, sentiment) at a different target in the footage. That's a meaningfully different tool than a plain silence-detector or a scene-cut splitter. Those older approaches just chop wherever the audio gets quiet or the camera angle changes. ClipAnything is trying to understand what's happening in the scene before it decides that scene is worth keeping, which suggests it should hold up better on content where the good part isn't marked by a loud noise or a hard cut.

How credits and minutes actually get spent

Here's the part that trips people up: credits are charged against the length of the video you import, not against how many clips come out the other end. OpusClip's own help article on the subject is direct about it: processing costs 1 credit per minute of the original video imported. Feed it a 40-minute podcast and that's 40 credits, whether ClipAnything returns three clips or thirty. A video under a minute rounds up to 1 credit. Partial minutes above a whole minute round down, so a 4.5-minute video costs 4 credits, not 5.

The practical effect is that your monthly minute allotment is really a monthly ceiling on how much raw footage you can run through the system, not a ceiling on output volume. How long processing actually takes

We looked for a published turnaround figure, something like "X minutes to process a Y-minute video", on OpusClip's pricing page, its help docs, and its "How OpusClip Works" page. It isn't there. The only official language on the subject is that paid tiers get "faster processing time compared to Free and Trial users." No specific minutes-per-hour-of-footage number is attached to that claim anywhere in OpusClip's first-party content.

That gap matters most when the source is time-sensitive. A podcast recorded last week can sit in a processing queue overnight without losing anything. A stream clip that's supposed to ride a moment while it's still trending online can't.

It also makes it hard to plan around OpusClip on a schedule. If you're batching a week of podcast episodes on a Sunday night, an unpublished processing time is a minor inconvenience, you queue it up and check back later. Export terms shift by tier. Free-tier clips carry a watermark, and OpusClip's help center ties this directly to plan status: you can't even downgrade back to Free unless you're under 30 minutes of remaining credit, a restriction bound up with the watermark rule. Starter and above export watermark-free. Free exports also don't stick around, they're gone after roughly three days, while Starter-tier exports are retained for closer to a month.

The output itself isn't just a cropped rectangle of the original. Reframe is doing continuous subject tracking, following whoever OpusClip has identified as the active speaker or focal point and keeping them centered as the frame moves through the vertical crop. What free actually gets you versus paid

At a mechanics level, not a pricing level, the free tier is a genuinely different product from the paid ones. Free means local upload only, no URL import, a 10GB cap, watermarked output, exports that vanish in days, and a smaller processing-minute allotment per OpusClip's pricing page. Paid tiers add URL import from major platforms, watermark-free export, longer retention, and priority processing speed, though again, no specific speed number is published.

The dollar amounts themselves move, and OpusClip's own annual-billing numbers weren't fully verifiable at the time of writing, so treat any exact figure with caution and verify on their live pricing page. Where the pipeline stops: live streams

Every step above assumes a finished file. Upload, import, ClipAnything's analysis, credit consumption by source minute, reframe, export, all of it runs on a video that already exists in full. OpusClip's own Twitch tool page confirms this directly: you paste the stream link, OpusClip analyzes the available recording, and clips generate afterward. That's URL import of a VOD, not live capture. Kick and YouTube Live work the same way, link in, wait, clips out once the analysis finishes on the recording.

For a Kick creator, that means the earliest a clip can exist is after the stream ends and the VOD is fully available to import.
